Down For Downpore

CBGB's
January 30th, 2004
Elizabeth Seward

If we could have effectively captured the electricity emanating from the CBGB's stage on Friday, January 30th, I'm confident that we could solve the world's energy crisis.

The word is out about Queens-based Downpore, and their intense live performance is one of the reasons why. The connection that the band creates with their audience is nothing short of chilling. Their energy is infectious and the music is numbingly powerful. The shows attract fans from every corner of the tri-state area and suspend them into a magnetic force-field of oblivion. Much of Downpore's cult-like fanbase appeared at CBGB's and exemplified dedication strong enough to turn many a band pale green with envy. The language of Downpore is one without barriers. The lyrics burn with passion, whether they're pouring out of singer Brian Albano or screamed by devoted audience members. The music is furious and cleansing, thick with sensational skill and driving rhythms. Guitarist Laz consistently demonstrates what one fan calls "unyielding near inhuman stamina on the guitar." The more experimental guitarist, Casey Mahoney, manipulates the 7 string electric guitar while bassist Dotz keeps the time tight and fierce with intimidating intensity.

According to another fan, Downpore's newest addition to the group, drummer Joe Letz, "brings a whole new force of energy to the entire band. Downpore has always had great songs and fired off awesome live shows, but now with Joe in the line-up, the package just seems complete." Not only are they complete, but Downpore are on the verge of something huge. They represent an underground culture present not only in NYC, but all over the world. They represent the good that can surface in a world flooded with pain. For more info, hit
