Closets of the Mind
By Miriam Howard

Now and then we are reminded
of things which we once said;
things which we confined
but could never keep hidden.

We all have our Closets of the Mind
where we hang our strangest thoughts
like they are our most prized possessions,
only to be forgotten.

They quietly take up their space
and tickle us every now and then.
But just as the laughter fades
we forget it all again.

These garments of truth
must somehow be preserved
otherwise why would we put it there
for someone else to observe?

This will look great on me
I will pay attention to it one day;
and my thoughts will not just
be something I have stored away.

For I will wear each one proudly,
each time as if it were new;
and every time I wear these thoughts
they will fit better than I ever knew.

Ticks and Tocks
By Miriam Howard

One by one
they roll as tumbleweeds
in a desert, lost.
The seconds,
ever ticking, ever giving
life to you and me.

Yet is life
only a series
of Ticks and Tocks.?
How could the
wonder of mankind
be neither cold nor hot?

Only once a year
do we have an hour
behind or ahead;
so seemingly these
hours add up to more
time to dream instead.

Age
By Miriam Howard

It's funny how age spins its web.
There is much enrichment
in watching a child grow
from a tiny human being
to a much bigger one;
only to find out there
this enormous broom
called mechanical time
is just waiting to sweep
away ages delicate lining.
