In The Limelight:
Big Time for
Lime Crime

By Craig Cook

On Wednesday April 28th the crowds gathered at downtown superclub Plaid for the Lime Crime Debut Fashion show. The event, scheduled as part of the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival, drew over 300 people eagerly anticipating a glimpse at Russian designer Xenia’s line of outrageous rock frocks.

While the bar handed out free drinks to the inebriated crowd, Lime Crime’s models strutted their stuff to the sounds of flashbulbs and 80’s tunes. Flirty, fun and melodramatic, this was a superb first showing for a promising young designer.

Highly influenced by the dark fantasy of filmmaker Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and garnering much deserved comparison to the work of Betsy Johnson, Xenia mixes punk prints with a girlie flair. Stripes, polkadots and checkerboxes are the theme of her recent work, and with skulls patches and stylized graphics spicing up the sharp duds, the result is stunning. The color scheme included Xenia’s signature lime along with bold pinks, yellows and reds. The fit was tight and short; most of her skirts measured a mere 11 inches from hip to tip and were highlighted by vivid thigh-high striped stockings.
