With the advance of the Internet and tech savvy generation
Y, we have become gadget whores. Our iPods, Blackberrys,
camera phones and palm pilots form the arsenal, which
adds to our daily routine. How many fucking user names
and passwords do we need to remember as we go from web
site to site? How many extra plugs do we have to order,
so that our homes or closet apartments can accommodate
the extra voltage needed to bring these toys to life?
When I first heard of the new MSN
Direct watch I was skeptical. Having had Timex’s
Beepwear Pro for years, I certainly wasn’t amazed
that I could receive news, e-mail and other features
on my wrist. Who wouldn’t want to be Dick Tracy?
After a bit of investigation, I went to the store to
check this new heavily advertised watch out. My previous
Timex watch took hearing aid batteries, which needed
to be replaced every month, so I was used to changing
batteries. But, to my surprise, the sales clerk at the
counter told me I would have to charge my watch every
night! Was I going to add more variables to my nightly
routine? Or was I going to opt for a simpler watch?
I’m all about innovation, and the fact that the
watch looked unique and provided more goodies convinced
me to settle for the Fossil MSN Direct watch.
After paying a nominal yearly fee
and placing the watch on top of the magnetic charger
(much easier), I went to sleep leaving an element of
surprise for the morning. When I woke up, I noticed
I had received a new “watch face”. This
was the indication I was looking for. Truly amazing
to this day, I can change the faces to suit my mood.
If I feel like a traditional dial, I can throw a little
“Rolex” into the bling. Or If I want a staticky
“TV” face I only need to push a few buttons.
All day long, customized news, local and international
weather, horoscopes, fun facts and text messages are
beamed directly to my wrist via radio frequencies. And
if that’s not enough, my entire Outlook calendar
is synched and I can plan my life accordingly.
A few months into this novel purchase,
I am definitely pleased. I know if anything happens
(without having to save some receipt) Fossil will fix
and return the watch at no charge. And speaking of “charge,"
the watch is priced at under $200, contrary to what
most onlookers think.

Oh, and if you are one of those
gambling types, don’t fret, you can have all the
lottery information you need sent to the watch as well. |
