Kills Live Up To The Hype
Letter
Kills:8/7/04
@ Randall's Island
by Shawna Adams
Amongst running around trying to get
all my interviews done and photograph sets, I was lucky
enough to catch Letter Kills’ set at the Randall’s
Island Warped on August 7th. I say I’m lucky that
I caught the band’s set because I wasn’t sure
what to expect from them, having never seen their show before,
but they blew me away. I found myself completely mesmerized
by their intense and flawless performance. Front man Matt
Shelton charmed the audience with all his hip shaking and
gracious smiles between verses while guitarists Timothy
Cordova and Dustin Lovelis head banged to the music, Kyle
Duckworth looked exuberant playing the bass, and Paul Remund
kept the beat going on drums. My only complaint is that
their set flew by; Warped’s 30-minute set constraints
left me itching for more.
Letter Kills’ July 27, 2004,
debut release The Bridge has been highly anticipated since
the band first started making noise on Warped Tour last
year. Although Warped head honcho Kevin Lyman swore the
band wouldn’t make it onto another Warped Tour after
a fight with security the band had at the Asbury Park date
last year, he should have known that the band was just too
good not to be included on the lineup for Warped again this
year. That and Mr. Lyman owes his life to the band’s
manager. Says drummer Paul Remund of the incident, “(At
last year’s Warped) there was a guy taking Kevin Lyman
by the neck and our manager actually rescued him, so here
we are on Warped again.” And they would certainly
be missed if they weren’t.
