Sometimes music really speaks to you. It stops you in your tracks. Things pass you by as you contemplate the genius hidden in those notes and lyrics. It changes your life and you wonder how you ever lived before.

Some music is for music's sake; it exists to add a mini-soundtrack to life. There are no heavy lyrics to discuss, no complex questions to ponder and no big mystery to uncover. It’s just there for fun, to play games with your ears and put a smile on your face. The GoStation makes exactly this type of music and I like them for it. They've joined my group of musical 'friends' on myspace.

The Quiet Zone EP is the first release from The GoStation, a peppy New York-based quartet. The five songs on this cool little album are perfect to play while walking on the way to another gig. Tunes that make you excited about music, the catchy choruses and predictable beats are reassuring in the way a plush new sweater is comfy, fun and oh-so-versatile.

The GoStation is: Doug, Nick, & Matt...

The guys of The Go Station do not necessarily welcome comparisons to other bands, instead preferring listeners to make their own decisions. But I can’t help point out the similarities between them and a couple of my favorite little bands - those with great songs but not great commercial success.

From Doug Levy’s slightly nasal voice to the slightly elementary lyrics, "Wandering Away" has so much in common with Stroke 9’s best- Remember Stroke 9? Who didn't totally love them in high school. "C’mon" is another solid but unspectacular track, with beats and melody reminiscent of that local band, Orange Park. It’s fun and inoffensive rock, but will only rock your body and not your world.

As their recent residency at popular Lower East Side hangout Arlene’s Grocery suggests, The GoStation have created quite a following among young music lovers. But if they ever want to make that move from Arlene’s to Irving Plaza to Radio City they'll need to distinguish themselves from the glut of bands currently crowding the scene.

This is their first EP, and The GoStation have ample time to perfect their sound and make good on their obvious potential. But we’ll just have to wait until… Another Day.
